    Crown Forum

    A COMMUNITY TRADITION

Crown Forum is a communal tradition that is mandatory for all students and that extends from the 19th century founding of the School to the 21st-century Institution of today. The spiritual core of Crown Forum provides a grounding space where students are connected to and develop their dynamic humanity.

There is special attention given to the articulation of and exposure to social justice across Crown Forum sessions. Accordingly, the radical interdependent community of students is prompted explicitly within the dimensions of justice, identity, action, and diversity. And there is the demand of students to understand their responsibility with respect to servant leadership and a global citizenry.

    REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDELINES

    • Crown Forum is inclusive of traditional 11am meetings on Thursdays and Alternative Crown Forums [i.e. Crown Forum Classrooms and Crown Forums After Dark]
    • It is mandatory that students earn a passing grade of 鈥淧鈥 for six semesters of Crown Forum in order to graduate from the College.
    • Crown Forum is a no-cost, credit-bearing requirement with 0.5 credit hour earned per semester. Accordingly, if you fail Crown Forum it negatively impacts your GPA.
    • A passing grade is earned for one semester of Crown Forum by demonstrating attendance in a minimum of eight Crown Forum sessions. Eight sessions are earned by attending said session AND by earning a minimum of 70% for the corresponding session prompt. If you attend a session but do not earn the required 70%, you do not receive credit for that session.
    • Crown Forum attendance is self-documented by the student scholar with the completion of session-related prompts that are administered through Canvas AND in reporting seat assumed for Crown Forum with the completion of a short survey via QR code projected at the end of each Crown Forum session.
    • It is the responsibility of the student to complete session prompts and the seating survey in order to document attendance.  This is the ONLY way one鈥檚 attendance and grade for Crown Forum is determined.
    • There are no 鈥渆xcuses鈥 accepted for missing Crown Forum or opportunities to 鈥渕ake-up鈥 missed sessions as there are at least 12 traditional Crown Forum sessions per semester.
    • Students are encouraged to track their attendance and scores on completed Crown Forum prompts through Canvas to determine progress and success.
    • If there is technical difficulty with your Canvas engagement that compromises your ability to complete Crown Forum sessions, notify your advisor, IT, and crown.forum@morehouse.edu immediately so that a resolution can be found quickly.
    • Transfer students are required to complete one semester of Crown Forum for each semester they are in residence at the College, not to exceed six semesters. For example, if you transfer to 麻豆影院 as an incoming sophomore, you are required to complete six semesters of Crown Forum.  If you transfer as an incoming junior, you are required to complete four semesters of Crown Forum.
    • Study Abroad students, like traditional in-residence scholars, are required to complete six semesters of Crown Forum.
    • Standing Crown Forum Office Hours occur in-person after each session and on Wednesdays from 4:30pm 鈥 6pm virtually.
    • It is the responsibility of the student scholar to ensure they are enrolled in Crown Forum for the six semesters required.
